CLASS
SIZE: Classes include between 6 and 12 children along with
their families. Classes that do not have a total of 6 children
by the end of class week 1 will be canceled due to insufficient
enrollment.
•
SESSION
LENGTH: Fall session is 12 weeks; Winter and Spring sessions
are 10 weeks; Summer session is 3-6 weeks (6 classes)
•
EARLY
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Early Registration insures a spot in
the desired class, and also waives the Registration Fee for
returning families. In order to receive a waived Registration
Fee families must register 1 month prior to Fall Session,
and two weeks prior to Winter, Spring, and Summer sessions.
•
REGISTRATION
DEADLINE: The regular registration period concludes one week
prior to the start of classes each session.
•
LATE
REGISTRATIONS: Families wishing to enroll after the registration
deadline may do so with the understanding that they will pay
a $10 administrative fee (to cover materials shipping cost)
in addition to any applicable registration fee. Families may
not enroll after week 3 of classes.
•
DEMONSTRATION
CLASSES: We host at least 1 demonstration class during
each session of Music Together for families who show an interest
in enrolling their child in the upcoming semester. Interested
families may sign up for the demonstration class at any point
during the session.
•
FREE
PREVIEW CLASSES: Up to two families per week may preview in
each class as long as there are spots available. If no spots
are available, families may be scheduled for the next scheduled
weekend demonstration class. Families are invited to actively
participate in a preview class (not just observe).
•
PARENT
EDUCATION NIGHT: One Parent Ed. night is scheduled during
week 3 of every session. Parents should attend without children
(unless the Conservatory is able to provide childcare). The
“night” will consist of 2 scheduled hours including two 30-45
minute demo sessions with an informal question and refreshment
time between. Parents are expected to attend one of the two
demonstration classes as well as the question and answer session
(a 1 hour commitment). However, families who are unable to
attend will be provided with informational materials to read
at home.
•
FAMILY
REFERRAL PROGRAM: Families earn a $5 discount in tuition for
each new family that registers thanks to their referral. Discounts
are good for the NEXT session. Up to 50% off of tuition! The
program is not cumulative (i.e. each session the families
start over with 0 referrals).
•
REFUNDS:
A refund of tuition (minus registration and materials fees)
will be automatically given ONLY if a family withdraws before
the second week of class. After the second week of class no
refunds will be automatically given and any unpaid
portion of tuition will still be owed by the family. With
extenuating circumstances the Executive Director of the Conservatory,
at her discretion, may give a full or partial refund at any
time.
•
HOLIDAYS/INCLEMENT
WEATHER: Holidays closures
will be scheduled and announced prior to the session. In the event of inclement weather, families should call the Conservatory to see if class is being held. Closures
due to inclement weather will be made up at the end of the
session if possible. If not possible, a one week credit for
the next session will be given to each family that missed
class due to the closure.
•
MAKE-UP
CLASSES: In the event that a family misses class the family
may make up the class during one of the other regularly scheduled
weekly classes as long as there is room in the class. A family
must notify the office of their intention to make up a class
in order to assure that there is a spot in the class time
requested. Refunds will not be given for classes missed unless
the entire class is canceled by the Conservatory.
•
POLICY
NOTIFICATION: A copy of Music Together policies will be given
to families at each Parent Education night of the session.
Procedures
for a Wonderful Music Together Class:
Always make
sure that you are being a good model for your child. Sing!
Dance! Create! Let go of your inhibitions! It doesn't matter
if you are “musical”, only that you are willing to “make music.”
Allow your
child the freedom to choose how he/she participates. Some
children watch silently (the entire time!). Some children
move. Some children are verbal. Some children love to touch
things. Almost ALL children are participating in some way,
even if it isn't easily apparent. We accept all forms of participation.
There is hardly ever an “expected” form of participation.
We only give suggestions during class.
We work
together to provide a safe environment for the children. Older
children are encouraged to use “gentle touches” with the younger
children. Aggressive behavior such as kicking or hitting (people
or other objects) is inappropriate for our time together and
is redirected immediately.
We encourage
active participation. However, your child's behavior should
be redirected if it distracts from the class to the point
that more focus is being placed on the child's behavior than
the class activity. The teacher will always try to give you
a “look” if it gets to that point. We understand that it's
sometimes hard to know when things get to “that point!”
We don't
ignore “boo boos!” If your child gets a “boo boo” (emotional
or physical) during class we may take a moment to surround
him/her and sing a soft and gentle song to help ease the pain
and let your child know that we care about each other.
Shoes (and
preferably socks if your room has hard flooring) are taken
off before class in order to protect little toes from being
stepped on!
Bags, toys,
“blankies” and other personal items should be stacked to the
side rather than being brought into the circle.
Except in
the case of a feeding infant, please leave food and drink
in the diaper bag or outside of the classroom. Breastfeeding
during class is perfectly acceptable.
If something
happens in class that you are uncomfortable with, please discuss
it with the teacher! We want to meet all of your family's
needs. The best way we can do that is with open and honest
communication.
